Researched, written and presented by Stephen Henderson and Emma Wood, ‘Cayamo - A Journey Through Song’ won third prize in the track for case studies at the Academy of Marketing Annual Conference, themed as ‘Reflective Marketing in a Material World’ and held from 7th to 10th July 2008 at The Aberdeen Business School. The two authors and their colleague, David Dewhurst, had successfully used an earlier version of this case in their teaching of strategic marketing to final year undergraduates. The topicality of the emergence of music themed cruises and its adaptability as a teaching tool attracted interest from many at the conference.
Later, as Module Leader of Strategic Marketing, Stephen won a further prize for the teaching of the Strategic Marketing module. The introduction of some assessment via interactive discussions won the ‘Best use of communication and collaborative tools’ section of the ‘TEL Us About It’ competition held by the Technology Enhanced Learning team at Leeds Metropolitan University. Stephen and Emma plan to present this work at the Academy of Marketing Annual Conference in 2009.
