Professor Rhodri Thomas gave a keynote address to the Events and Meetings in the City Conference in Gothenburg, Sweden, June 17-20, 2009. The event was organised jointly with the European Cities Marketing annual conference and general assembly. His presentation explored issues relating to politics and events policy development in the context of tourism, focusing particularly on securing iconic cultural events. Drawing on a variety of projects and his experience as Non-Executive Director of Welcome to Yorkshire (the regional tourist board that also leads on major events) he provided valuable insights for the predominantly policy-making audience.
Other speakers included Hansjorg Wirz, president of the European Athletic Association (EAA), Professor Tommy Andersson, University of Gothenburg, and Anna Frick, president IPCAA (International Pharmaceutical Congress Advisory Association).
