Kate Dashper is presenting a paper entitled “The role of sport in policing the boundaries of acceptable sex and gender” at the forthcoming Political Studies Association Sport and Politics Group Annual. Through a consideration of reactions within the sporting community to the questions raised about the sex/gender of South African athlete Caster Semanya, her paper considers the ways in which many of the practices of modern sport that are framed as issues of fairness work to police the boundaries of gender, sex and sexuality within sport and beyond.
