The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) was conducted jointly by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), the Scottish Funding Council (SFC), the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) and the Department for Employment and Learning, Northern Ireland (DEL). The results will be used to guide official funding decisions.

Members of the UK Centre for Events Management (UKCEM) were included as part of a pan-university Carnegie Research Institute led submission to RAE 2008 Unit 69, Sports related studies.

The work submitted generated the following profile of results:

4*        15% (World leading research)
3*        25%(Internationally excellent)
2*        35% (Internationally recognized)
1*        25% (Nationally recognized)
U         0% (Unclassified)
