The UK Centre for Events Management has been appointed to undertake a wide-ranging evaluation of the impact of Visit Blackpool's ambitious events programme, including its economic impact.  Project Director, Professor Rhodri Thomas, stated: 'We are very excited about this project. It involves a set of eight diverse events that, when combined, represent a highly creative package, and all taking place at such an iconic destination'.  The study will last for one year and incorporate the following events:

Funded by the West Yorkshire Lifelong Learning Network, this project involves conducting an audit in West Yorkshire of existing festival and events education providers in HE and FE as well training and CPD programmes offered by industry partners and to produce a publication to disseminate findings.  In addition the audit will include consultation with industry on their perceived requirements and gaps in current provision, with a view to develop further short courses, or executive programmes.

 

Professor Rhodri Thomas is conducting economic impact assessments for the Rugby Football League (RFL) of two of their important events, The 2010 Super League Grand Final between St Helens and Wigan (Old Trafford, Manchester) and the Northern Rail Blackpool 9s tournament.

The Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT) is the oldest and most influential professional association in travel and tourism.  Its unique partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University means that Rhodri Thomas has become the designated ITT Professor. Broadly, his role is to strengthen the Institute’s articulation with university sector via research and research-related activities.
